In the past Thatz was once a thief on the streets, trained and watched after by a bartender named Master. When a rival thief named Kitchel stole everything he had, leaving him with nothing, Thatz was desperate, and decided the only way to get what he wanted was to steal a rock from the Dragon Castle. The rock was actually the sleeping place of the Earth Dragon, and after his adventures trying to steal the rock (which include Shydeman possessing him in an attempt to murder the Dragon Lord), he was chosen by the Earth Dragon to be the Dragon Knight of Earth. He also received a scar across his face, given to him by the Dragon Lord in an attempt to tame the demonic powers that had possessed him before. Because of the Dragon Lord's generosity, Thatz devoted his life to Lykouleon, wanting nothing more than to protect him and keep him safe at any cost. He was taken in by the Dragon Tribe and taught to be a knight. However, due to his colorful past, he kept a strong urge for food and sleep, as well as the need for valuable objects.
Thatz cares very much for Rath and he wants nothing more than to make Rath understand that his past doesn't matter to them. Having discovered Rath's secrets long ago in the past, he understood that Rath hated him and decided not to let it affect him, in turn making Rath's attempt to push him away useless. He feels that Rath is trying to act demonic to keep people from getting too close to him, and he always makes sure that Rath never gets too carried away with anything. Thatz is constantly worrying about his closest friends, despite his sometimes childish outward appearance.
During the long drawn out battle in Kainaldia, Thatz is depicted as the more serious character for a change. He battles against Fedelta, suffering several wounds before finally catching up with Rune and his group.
SPOILER ENDING WARNING
At the end of the battle, it's Delte, not Kitchel, that runs to Thatz's aid as he lies exhausted and severely wounded. It's also she who appears in the same panel with Thatz during the celebration at the end of the volume, a chapter that shows everyone with their pair (Rune and Tintlet, Rath and Cesia, etc.). Original theories of the two ending up together are questionable, especially since Kitchel apparently has a thing for Tetheus. With Delte now tending to him, it's quite plausible that they end up together.
Thatz also lost his left arm during the battle with Fedelta. If you couldn't tell from the panels during the fight, at the end of the final chapter where everyone is celebrating, you will see that the whole time he has his left arm covered by a cloak. He also becomes the Blue Dragon Officer.
